About

Larry-Headshot-8-2014This blog started out documenting the summer travels of the Kesslin family in 2012, but has evolved into my personal platform to share my thoughts. My name is Larry Kesslin, I am married to a wonderful partner, Ilise and our children are Drew and Noah. When we started this journey Drew was 12 and Noah was 10. We left San Diego on June 20th, 2012 to spend a month in NY and then we set off to Africa for a journey of a lifetime!

Kesslin family summer 2012

We visited numerous rural villages in Uganda on behalf of a non-profit I am on the board of called U-TOUCH. We visited the Abayudaya Jews in Mbale, then traveled to Gulu, the home of original U-TOUCH Center. We also spent a week in Kenya on safari and that was beyond amazing! We had an experience that truly changed our lives.

Now, we are off on another adventure as our kids are now a bit older, at 13 and 14. We leave San Diego on January 25th for 5 months of traveling the world. We will start in Australia and then head to Dubai for a few days and then to Greece, Turkey and much of Europe. We return to the the US in late June.

Larry, Illise, Drew and Noah, What an AMAZING adventure and the trip of a lifetime. While I admittedly have only read the past 5 days or so, I’m so very excited for all of you and your travels. Thank you for sharing so much – the pictures are incredible. Best wishes for continued blessings. Angela

Thanks for the kind words. We are finishing up our volunteer work on Monday and head to Kenya on Tuesday to begin our safari.

Talk with you upon our return.

    Hi Larry,
I think we know each other from childhood. My mother Naomi Schuster had worked for your father many years ago. If there is an opportunity to talk via phone for a few moments I would appreciate your time. Let me know what might work for you.
    Best regards,
    Jeremy Schuster

If your schedule is too full have a great trip and try to pick up a copy of “the Good Life- What makes life worth living” by Hugh Mackay. Hugh is a living legend in the field of social analysis, social psychology and ethics. Any book store should have it. Hope to catch up, Stephen Nall

    Hi Larry
We never met, but I had dinner at your parents house last night in PGA, and your Dad told me about the blog and your trip. I have been reading it for a few hours and find it fascinating. There is a book in this blog – about how to take six months off from work and get into life. It does sound like a trip of a lifetime.

    Larry,
It is fascinating and beautiful reading about your trips and plans for the next five months. I remember you talking about this at Opportunity Collaboration in 2014 in Ixtapa. Keep us updated. There is no better way to learn, help…than with the family. No school or book can replace traveling and experiencing first hand peoples’ situation around the globe than traveling. Thank you for sharing about your journey and dream.
