Evolving to Our Genius
Over the past 22 years I have been on a journey from unconsciousness to my current stage of awareness. This journey has been amazing as I continue to evolve as a person and a vehicle of change. More recently, over the past six months of travel, I have had a unique opportunity to connect with people from around the globe and flush out a number of concepts. One concept is looking back on my life’s journey and realizing the path I’ve taken to get where I am today.
From birth until the age of about 29 years old I lived a very unconscious life. I woke up each day and did “what I was supposed to do.” I lived my life based on everyone else’s rules; never asking myself what I wanted, who I was or why I was here on this planet. I was more concerned about what others thought of me than what I thought of myself.
In the fall of 1992, right after my 29th birthday I began observing other people that had lives I aspired to have. I realized that 90% of these people I admired had something in common, they all owned their own business. I then knew something had to change and I starting living a more conscious life vs the unconscious life I had been living.
I wanted to become aware of my challenges and take them on, head on. I became involved with motivational workshops, therapy (both individual and group), and began reading a ton of books. This stage lasted for a good decade before I took a break and wanted to just live my new awareness. During that time I got married and had two children, one of the greatest blessings in my life.
I was then 10 years into my entrepreneurial journey. I was learning what it meant to have freedom, freedom from a job and the freedom that comes with knowing your value in the marketplace. I became genetically unemployable and I love the freedom entrepreneurship has provided for me. After this freedom took full form, it allowed my family and I to move from NYC to San Diego, as well as spend a month in Africa. This was a pivotal time when my energy changed and my life began to take more form. I was becoming the person I was meant to be rather than the person I was trained to be. I was going after things in life that mattered to me; pursuing my purpose full throttle.
For the past five years I have been very focused on living a purposeful life and I believe that has brought me to my current state of mind. By understanding my purpose I now understand what my life’s work is. I know that I’m here for a reason and it’s my obligation to focus 100% of my energy on my life’s work. In a very recent conversation with a good friend he mentioned that he doesn’t think this is the end of the journey, and I agree. He told me that that once you find your life’s work the next stage is to find your genius.
Wow, finding our genius, that’s awesome!
To me finding our genius is about understanding what is it that we were put on the planet to do that uses our natural gifts; what we do effortlessly. It’s something that we would chose to do every day even if we didn’t get paid to do it; the best and highest use of our time on this planet. I agree with my friend, that finding our genius is what comes next.
If I look at my life’s journey as a progression, it might look something like this:
Stage One: Total Unconsciousness
Stage Two: Awakening Consciousness
Stage Three: Pursuit of freedom, financial freedom
Stage Four: Finding Purpose
Stage Five: Finding My Life’s Work
Stage Six: Finding My Genius
Stage Seven: ?????
This has been an amazing journey so far and I look forward to stepping into my genius, helping others find the path to their genius and finding out what’s next.
To a life well lived!
