A Quiet Day in Munich

I woke up early this morning and started writing. I got my blog post done for yesterday and was able to get some quality thinking time as well as go for a 45 minute walk in the rain. Yes, nice, cold rain! We have been very blessed with weather on this trip but the next week or so looks to be a bit challenging. It rained most of today, tomorrow looks to be a nice day as we travel to Garmisch and then cold and wet the rest of the week. I was told by a number of people that Garmisch is just spectacular in any weather conditions, so hopefully we will enjoy our time in spite of the weather.

We are planning to drive first thing in the morning to Neuschwanstein Castle, which is the castle that Disney based his castle on. It is about 2 hours south of where we are staying and about 1 hour from Garmisch. We need to get there by 10 am or we won’t get a ticket. They require booking two days in advance online or we can buy tickets that day, but they usually sell out by 10:30 in the morning. I’m looking forward to seeing the castle.

Today was a quiet day with a small tour of the BMW Welt. The BMW Welt is a multipurpose facility with all of the current BMW models on display, including the i8. Noah loves cars so we spent a good two hours walking around the building checking out all the cars and the motorcycles. If it were up to Noah he would already be riding dirt bikes, so he just loved the experience. He was so excited to see the i8, but since it is such a new car you couldn’t touch it at all. It was in it’s own room up a flight of steps and you couldn’t open the doors or touch anything. All the other BMW’s and Mini Coopers were totally accessible to sit in and check out.

At the end of our stay we walked over to the BMW Museum but we were over looking at more cars. We enjoyed the experience and then decided to find a local bakery to get a real Bavarian pretzel. We have tried a few from the local grocery store but figured you would get a better one from a real bakery. In the end, the one from the grocery was just as good as the bakery. Either way, they are pretty tasty 🙂
All in all, today was a quiet day that we all needed. Looking forward to our time in Garmisch and getting to experience some of what the Alps has to offer.
To a life well lived!
